Good Food for All
If you know First Watch, you know that we’ve been around for a while – 35 years to be exact. We’ve been able to maintain our growth and success by focusing on our mission – “You First.” In a nutshell, it’s all about the people. We are dedicated to putting our people first and making sure they’re fulfilled in their careers. They’re proud to work for First Watch, to serve high quality ingredients and award-winning dishes, and to offer the friendly, helpful service you see in our restaurants every day.
When we search for companies to partner with and source ingredients from, we use a similar philosophy. We seek organizations who care about their people, their customers, and the quality of the products they produce. That’s why we chose Bob’s Red Mill.
Bob and Charlee Moore founded Bob’s Red Mill more than 30 years ago near Portland, Oregon, inspired by the idea that people everywhere should have access to the best quality foods available. Today, Bob’s passion for health and treating his customers, employees, and suppliers with respect is as strong as ever, and he still plays a fundamental role in the daily operations of the employee-owned business.
What do you mean by “employee-owned business”?
Well, on his 81st birthday, Bob created an Employee Stock Ownership Program, making everyone an employee-owner. As owners, every Bob’s Red Mill employee is committed to sourcing, milling, testing, packaging, labeling, and selling the finest products available.
What’s a stone mill?
Modern technology can’t match the Old World engineering of a stone mill. Bob’s Red Mill’s original millstones were hand-cut French buhrs mined 40 miles east of Paris in the early 1500s. To this day, the company uses traditional quartz millstones to preserve the nutrients and flavor that are lost through modern heat-intensive milling. The finished product is fresh, wholesome, and nourishing – just as nature intended.
Which Bob’s Red Mill products are served at First Watch?
We can thank Bob’s Red Mill for our delicious grits. These yellow corn grits are simply coarsely ground bits of corn, which have long been a traditional staple of both southern Italy and the American South. Our chia seeds (in that totally tasty A.M. Superfoods Bowl) come from Bob’s Red Mill too! Plus, during the Spring season, we will be featuring our Ancient Grains Protein Bowl*, which has Bob’s Kasha (toasted buckwheat) and flaxseeds too. Thanks Bob, for all of your hard work providing us with amazing ingredients on a daily basis!
